Doomsday?

Image
One day more to go and 2011 will finally bid goodbye and now we will be entering the year which most fake visionaries, including one movie, predict the world will meet its tragic end. Of course most Catholics, including me, dismissed it as pure hogwash!Baloney! I am unfazed with all those signs they claimed, (yahoo news even published one article about these signs like global warming, strong solar flares affecting communication, giant asteroids closely passing dangesrously to earth, pole shift, strong volcanic eruptions, tsunami, typhoons, etc.) maybe we are just being abusive to the mother earth, prompting terrible calamities, hammering the world constantly with disastrous occurrences.  But anyway, though I firmly believed the mother earth would never come to an end, I could not deny the fact that global warming is happening, but this does not mean we will going to perish next year, I think global warming is a reality as the earth ages.  When I returned home last Christm

The Parabens Anxiety

Since reading several articles about those research studies linking chemicals, Bisphenol-A and methyl paraben , to breast cancer (and other form of cancers), I became very vigilant with skincare, shampoo and conditioners. The common question now --- Are we still safe from using cosmetics without checking the ingredients? Okay, so just last night I went to the mall and checked the ingredients of several lotions, shampoo, conditioners, skincare and body wash, that I've been using for the past years! And to my horror, almost all those products contained parabens! Goshhh According to a research study in California, scientists discovered that  Methyl Paraben and Bisphenol-A (BPA) promote cancer cell growth when these chemicals enter the body, it may also interfere or block the effectiveness of cancer treatment like Ramoxifin.  Parabens had long been linked to cancer growth, tumors, infertility, nervous breakdown, depression, reproductive problems in the past. Bisphenol-A, asid

That Email is a Hoax!--John Hopkins

Just this morning, I read a forwarded email from a friend about this article of a certain doctor telling that cancer is just a disease of the mind, I almost believe especially when he claimed he has a PhD an MD and God knows what else...but when I scrolled down and read about John Hopkins Medical Center publishing an article called "Cancer Update"..I begin to doubt. You know why?Well, because, I know JHMC, I read things about this very prestigious hospital and its fantastic credibility all through out these years. They built their reputation around reliable research studies, they have researchers and resident doctors with remarkable backgrounds. JHMC is located in Baltimore, Maryland, USA and consistently included in the top 10 rank of the best hospitals in the world. Dr. Ben Carson, world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and best-selling author (Take The Risk, Gifted Hands, etc.) is one of their in-house doctors. So when I read about this cancer update thing, I was suspici

Google Plus!

Enjoying google plus right now! Yesterday, Kathy told me to try google+ project, a social networking site created by google. At first I was hesitant because I'd already tried almost all social networking sites in the internet and I am beginning to worry about its implication to my privacy, hehe..so I left it for a while and concentrated working on other stuff. Then went on... Before I know it, my curiosity nudged me to register and puff! sooo amazed with its exciting, refreshing features. Unlike other networking sites, google plus allows you to create "circles" and the wall post can be edited, cool! another thing is, we can control everything we posted, I mean, we can choose who among our friends can read and view our wall posts. Terrific! One thing I love about google+ is that I can directly access my account in Adsense. It also allows me to organize reminders and appointments through its customized calendar. Google+ is bold and fun and a bit classy! Visit

Good online etiquette to stay safe

Reposted from Yahoo!news Here's some advice from Sileo, who wrote the "Facebook Safety Survival Guide, " about protecting online privacy on all social-networking sites: • Never post your exact date and place of birth. It's invaluable information to identity thieves, particularly when the two are bundled together. • Never post your address, phone number or email address. This is plum information to scammers and marketers who are looking for nuggets of your identity. • Control who can see your personal information. Many social-networking sites have privacy features, but they change often. Know what they are, stay on top of them and restrict your page to your real friends, not friends of friends or someone you met in a bar. • Limit information about your activities. If you must brag about a trip or a fabulous party, do it after the fact. • Remember that what you post is public and permanent. Don't put up embarrassing photos that you wouldn't show your grand

Tsunami Scare

Image
Yesterday, March 11, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 shook Japan's premier city, Tokyo, spurring a devastating tsunami of about 10 meters along its coastline areas. According to Reuters, it was the strongest earthquake to hit Japan in 100 years and the 5th recorded deadly earthquake to hit the world since 1948. Immediately, Philvocs sent a Tsunami alert warning to 19 Philippine provinces situated on the coastal areas of the country. We were also told in the office to go home at 5:00 pm because of the impending disaster. But since I still have a class at 6:00pm I went to Ateneo to ask if there was a message to call off the classes but there was none so I proceeded to the 7th floor for our workshop-seminar. But I was thinking of my family back home. Since my home province, Surigao del sur, is one of the 19 provinces mentioned by Philvocs, I was worried with how the calamity would affect them. My mother texted me that they were told to evacuate but since it was alread

Birthday and Death

Image
While posting a birthday greeting to the Philippine President, N oynoy Aquino, in my twitter account, my home page was flooded with latest tweets from the people/Entity I followed:Karen Davila, Julius Babao, Sol Aragones and The Inquirer regarding the shooting incident in the Loyola Park just this morning, I thought the former AFP chief, Angelo Reyes was shot by an unknown assailant but updates on the shooting stated that the former Defense secretary really shot himself to death, an apparent suicide was ruled eventually. Another tweet says that Reyes was hazy and emotionally bothered in the previous days because of the Senate investigation linking AFP comptroller, Major General Carlos Garcia on the alleged massive corruption in the AFP, the news revealed that the house hearing committee is set to summon Reyes for this controversy. Reyes, who was with his two sons and a bodyguard at the Loyola Memorial Park to visit the grave of his mother, shoot himself on the chest after he orde

Most Corrupt People in the World

We'd an Anti-Corruption Sensitivity Seminar-Workshop in one of my classes in the grad school and oh boy! Two out of ten most corrupt people in the world are Filipinos. Wow, even the most disgusting Top Ten List, Filipinos never missed to be included! Thank God Philippines had Cory and Ninoy who partly save the country's distressing image in the world affairs. In 2010 December, they were named by TIME magazine as two of 100 PEOPLE WHO SHAPED and INFLUENCED THE 20th Century. The only Filipinos who managed to be included in the TIME listing. Back to the most corrupt, here is the complete list: World's Ten Most Corrupt Leaders Name Position Funds embezzled 2 1. Mohamed Suharto President of Indonesia (1967–1998) $15–35 billion 2. Ferdinand Marcos President of the Philippines (1972–1986) 5–10 billion 3. Mobutu Sese Seko President of Zaire (1965–1997) 5 billion 4. Sani Abacha President of Nigeria (1993–1998)
